I have just got a 1995 HiJet and would like any information on this truck.
The truck has a 660 cc engine, 5 spd and 13" tires and rims. The reason
I got the truck was for the 40 mpg and four wheel drive. It will be driven mainly on the highway and in town. After driving it the best milage I have gotten is about 24 mpg. I am going to have the valves and timing check
(taked to Leon Barnett great guy). Any help on getting the gas milage up
would be of great help.

If you want 40 mpg, replace the 13'' tires with the stock sized 12''. Air them up to about 30 psi. Drive about 60kph.

will 12in. tires make that much difference or is it just your odometer is just out?

You can forget seeing 40 mpg in your truck. I have basically the identical truck (sans the 13" wheels), and have never seen higher than 32 mpg. I can only guess that the 40 to 50 mpg claims have come from people figuring the "mileage" without accounting for converting the numbers from kilometers to miles, before figuring out their fuel economy. 50 kilometers per gallon equates to roughly 30 miles per gallon.

The way I have been doing the milage is km div. by gal. x by .621 for mpg.
The truck start fine when cold but is a little harder to start after driving on the highway.

Thank you for the help

How fast have you been trying to go on the highway?

50 to 60 mph.
