View Full Version : Climber?
Hi I am real new and just getting started in the world of these mini trucks. I am still shopping around for one. My question is all Daihatsu Hi jet considered climbers? I have saw references to them occasionally having a front and rear locking differentials or is it just a few of the models that had this? Thanks John

Hi k5wc, don't know how "new" you be but welcome. you might get some background on this by using the search option and type in "axle lock and differential lock" you will find several threads/posts discussing this issue and might have some of your questions answered. hope this helps, later..........slim
Thanks slimbad for the reply. I read all the threads that did come back to what you have referenced and learned a lot. I have not found out exactly what the climber is a reference to, maybe it's just name like silverado is to a cheverolet. I have only saw a very few daihatu trucks that had the climber sticker on them and was thinking it might mean something special. I have found one here local and I am thinking that is going to be my first truck. Thanks Jon

Jon, sorry I didn't read your question well enough. To better answer your question:
The 5th generation had this:
"By 1982 arrived a four-wheel-drive version (wheelbase 181.5 cm), the high-profile tire versions were called Climber (such versions with 2WD and a non-slip diff adapted this name later)."
For more info on these vehicles try this:

Hope this helps......later, slim

I dont have complete knowledge on the "Climber", but I can tell you out of about 100 Diahatsus that I have had, 3 of them were Climbers and the difference I saw was they had a "super diff lock" button. None of the others Diahatsus had this button.
thanks guys for the great information. Jon
