I have a 1995 hi jet with a 660 cc and 13" wheels. This truck gets from 15 to once 26 mpg. I average about 22 mpg but, in town is where I get the worst mileage. I have had the timing, valves set. new plugs and airfilter. It has been cold here (-10 to +20 F) so I checked to see that the choke is open when warm and it look to be open. I think it is running to rich, plugs and tailpipe are black. I have been told that this truck should get 40 to 50 mpg I think 30 to 35 is more real. Any help would be great.

cant help you too much but im going through the same thing. Poor mileage, running very rich. Can always smell unburnt fuel and smokey at times. So when you get yours figured out please pass on some info.

if you are smelling a lot of unburnt fuel try running the gears out a little bit more. when you baby these motors they tend to load up the fuel in the cat and in the muffler. these motors are meant to rev. i don't mean to shift every time at the red line, but don't think since they are small they won't make RPM's.

i went through the same thing with my old toyota with a 22re in it. i thought it was a small motor and i had to baby it. it smelled bad all the time, i changed the cat the O2 sensors tune up checked timing everything i could think of. i took it to a shop and the guys checked it out, then took it on a test drive. he revved it up pretty good and cleaned it out. after that i would rev the gears out a little more and it ran really well and quit smelling like unburnt gas and got better gas mileage.
