Hey guys! We just got our Hi-Jet and are kinda disappointed....It's a "climber" with a 2-3" body lift kit and the ATV tires. We live -on top- of the Rockies here in Colorado. At an altitude of 10K ft, the poor little truck can barely make it up the driveway. It completely stalls in LITERALLY any gear in 4H. It runs ok in 4L, but still bogs out. We need to re-jet it like all of our ATV's and chainsaws had to be. Whats a good source for small parts like carb jets?
Also, we REALLY need a couple inches more lift, but don't want to put the CV's in a bind, as we have heard some kits do. So what would be a good combination of body and suspension lift to give us maximum clearance? We have big rocks, deep cricks, and deep snow up here....this thing MUST go through 2' of snow. Right now we're lucky if it goes through 1'.....nice to meet ya'll!

Yes you will need to rejet it. I have 1995 with a 5 spd and am at 4100 to 6000 feet msl. You will have to have the jets made (they don't have them in the USA) I am going to use about .040 for 4500 feet. I would like to get the gasmileage up but don't think it will ever get 40 mpg as far as power I think what you have at your alt. is about all you will get. Good luck.

I've got a supercharged Subaru with EFI coming that will eventually make it's way to 10,000 ft. in Colorado. I'll let you know how it does up there. I was afraid that the carbed versions wouldn't cut it up there, especially since I want to plow snow with it and do a little trail riding.
Where are you located in Colorado? My Subaru will be in the Soth Park area near Fairplay.

We're in Divide, about 30mi East of CO Springs. Our truck has electronic ignition. Leon is a helluva nice guy, sent me manuals for a complete tune-up and illustrated carb rebuild instructions. The guy we bought it off of said he advanced the timing 2deg. This is incorrect for altitude if I'm not mistaken....?like gas with lower octane ratings, don't we also have to retard timing like 10deg? Seems like a "serious" liftkit is just not possible without major driveline mods...I talked to the guys at bulldogoffroad....They offer a complete revamp of the suspension. For our chainsaws that wouldn't run, we soldered the jets shut, then redrilled them on the mill.....I REALLY didn't want to go through that again.....

not in a mini truck, maybe fresh fluff but not wet snow. You will need to put 34"-38" tractor tires on to get the body and the drive train high enough to go thru 2' of snow and then you will not have the snort needed to keep up moving forward. Not trying to be negative just realistic, if you throw enough money at this you might do it. Better idea is to put tracks on all four but again this is spendy. There some threads on tracks on this forum best talk to these guys.Good luck.

I think you might be surprised what you'll be able to go through with some 25" tires. I know that the snow at 10,000 feet is almost always light, fluffy snow. There is no humidity! Might not be a bad idea to have a winch mounted on the truck just in case, depending on where you plan on taking it. Like Steve said, tracks would be another option, albeit a slightly pricey one. I may go that route with my S/C Subaru with the plow. I'm going to try some "tractor" tires on it first to see how it performs before I go to the tracks.

Has anyone used snow tire chains? I have often thought of this before. Might be a cheap alternative. Easy to take on and off as needed.
