View Full Version : Am I having a problem with my alternator, flaky battery cables or something else?

I drove to work this morning and about halfway there noticed that the truck had less power than usual. I stepped on the accelerator and nothing happened. I made a stop on the way to pick up some breakfast and listened to the truck for a couple minutes. I found that when idling, the truck sounded fine, but when I would press the accelerator, engine rpms would slow and almost stall the engine, before increasing rpms and sounding almost normal. However, I found that when I turned the headlights off, this behavior went away. I know that the battery cables look pretty frayed and appear to have been repaired a few times so I plan to replace them, but I'm not confident that new cables will solve the issue.

if the cables are frayed replace them and make sure to replace the engine ground strap as well...sounds exactly like bad wiring..could be a dying alternator but sounds more likely the cables
