Received my 89 Jumbo with 3 inch lift with alloys and 23 x 8 x 12 Carlisles. The 3 inch lift appears to be too much for the Half shafts, so my question is:
Does this wheel/tire need lift or will it clear without ...or...
Is there something out ther less than 2 inch, or is that the only other available kit a 2 inch.....or
Does a 2 inch in the front require any lift in the back.
I was all through this with Suzuki Sammys back in the day, and got sick of replacing Universals. I don't want to go down that same road.

it's my understanding that the 2" lift is the way to go, it gives enough room to run the larger tires without rubbing but doesn't lift the truck so much as to bind the CV when the suspension is unloaded.

I just got my '93 HiJet dumptruck and am dealing with the same question. I've been told (by dealer selling wheels & tires) that with the "right" wheels, 23x8.50 Carlisles should work without needing a lift kit. Haven't done so yet, but think I will try it. Besides the question of putting extra stress on the CV joints, I would prefer not to lift my truck, both for stability & to keep the bed at current height. At 67, I don't care to lift anything higher than I have to :).
From what I've seen so far, most of the minitruck brands are similar in layout. My brother-in-law has 23x8 lug type ATV tires on his Suzuki mini with no lift and it works OK. Although I think most "experts" would say that a wider rim is needed for an 8" tire, he is using the original rims and has had no problem (he's had his truck for more than a year now).

Using carlisle 23x8x12 with stock rims (a real Pain to mount) generally won't require a lift kit (1996 Suzuki Knowledge) others unknown.
But if you put the correct wheels on it then the story changes.
On suzuki and Mitsubishi with 7" wide wheels it requires a lift and doors cut to prevent rubbing. I haven't done a hijet so it's only a guess at this time.
I put 3" lift with wheel and Tru-Power tires on my 92 Mits dump and trimming was also required due to the huge lugs on the tires.
