Does anyone have the base timing spec or a procedure for setting base timing on a '90 KS4 Sambar engine?

I'm finally getting my truck back together - I lined up the distributor to its approximate previous location and got it running. I want to get it dialed in before I put the box back on. :)

Still have to fix my fuel leak, fill the cooling system, zip tie a few wires in place, put the box back on, and hook up the vacuum lines to the 4WD actuator solenoid on the bottom of the box. After that I've got to take another stab at getting plates on this thing (registration expired, state didn't send renewal :frustration: ) and I'll be on the road again. :D

Bump! Still need the timing spec.

Please don't make me buy a manual... I'm broke after paying a shop $140 to rebuild my alternator.

i'm no expert but i would shoot for about 6* btdc, or look for about (typically) 30 - 32* total advance at high rpm. that's something of a generic setting to get you in the ball park. if it starts easily and shuts down without dieseling and doesn't overheat you are close. if it were an air cooled motor i would put more emphasis on it being exact, but since it is water cooled it will be more forgiving of a few degrees error.

It runs smooth, shuts off fine, doesn't overheat right now... but it won't go past 1000 KM/H. It used to do 110+ without a headwind. I must have it a bit retarded.

Woa! 1000KM/H. You have high expectations. :D

On my 1991 KS4A truck, there's a decal on the drop down rear engine lid. It says in English EN07 658cc. EN07 is the model of this engine.
BTDC 6 degrees at 800 RPM
.45-50 This may be the points gap. I'm not sure
IN 0.15mm Intake clearance I assume
EX 0.20mm Exhaust clearance I assume

In the owners manual which came with mine, the plug gap is 1 to 1.1mm.
I'm using DENSO 5304 iridium spark plugs which really helped.

I've also been able to use an STP oil filter ---- S6607
also an STP air filter ---- SA6625
I hope this helps.

Whoa, good call. Never thought to look there. D'oh!

I just screwed around with the timing... advanced it a bit. Acceleration improved, but I still can't get much past 100 KM/H without a hill or a tailwind. :(
