So how many importers have filed for the extension and when will you know if it is granted?

I know of one dealer in Texas that told me he got a extension. Truck extension was filled and trucks were paid before Dec 8, are to arrive the 2nd. week of Dec. Extension was approved. In a phone conversation, he told me that he is in contact often with Jeff Barnett (KTA) and a solution to our import problem is in the works. May take 3 months or 9 months who knows. I have reasons to believe that the KTA is continuing to be put together, its just going to take sometime.

I am in a bind and don't know where to turn. Unware of the new EPA reclassifications of the mini-trucks, I imported a container from Japan on 11/28/08 (I know, I must be living in a cave). It is now in limbo at BNSF in Houston. I have contacted the EPA and Customs, but as you all know, have gotten little help or advice. Can anyone provide me with direction? My Customs Broker has refused to enter any paperwork to Customs due to the headache. What is this extension?

I'm afraid you're in deep shiit man, from what I understand the only option is to send them back to Japan or find a buyer somewhere outside of the united states to ship them to. Bad spot to be in, you could be out the cost of the trucks, shipping here, storage costs and any fines, plus shipping back to Japan.:frustration:

Holy crap. That does suck.. Impaige who sold you the trucks this late in the game? I ask this only to find out who to stay away from even in the future. Unless it was a private individual they probably already knew of the situation. :(

Unfortunately, it was a private individual with whom I have ordered 2 previous containers. I still have another waiting in Japan.

My container cleared customs on 12/26/08. I received it yesterday. Evidently, I found the right EPA Enforcement Agent and he was able to help. I did have to pay storage fees since 12/17/08, but it was a lot less than having it refused and sent back to Japan! Thank you guys for all your concern and support.

yahoooooo. It is always nice to hear something good happen. Well you probably should tell us what you got in the container. :)

Just found out today that the EPA was kind enough to grant us our 1yr extension, we can continue to import while we continue pushing forward having our mitsubishi's, and Subaru's certified! So, for those of you who were purchasing containers from us we can continue to fill your orders.
Thanks!

Thanks!OH NO!!!! What about these importers that had imported hundreds of trucks and are now trying to sell them to the rset of us at VERY INFLATED prices?!?! I guess they may be wanting to deal pretty quyick:pop::p:eek:

I"m not sure who did what or how many extensions were granted but we can operate business as usual for another year. The extension was the reason we didn't rush out and buy everything we could and then have a ton of inventory to try and get rid of. Because we've already started with testing on Mitsy's and Subaru's we can import all of the trucks we've imported in the past until Dec 8, 09. We can still supply retailers with container sales direct from Japan at the same prices we were charging before. Im glad I didn't rush out and buy 300 trucks and have to compete against others that are doing business as usual:eek:

I have heard of another 1 yr extension as well. So it looks like business almost as usual for the US.

MiniBrutes,

Fantastic. What is involved in getting the 1 year extension? Do you just call and ask for it or do you have to fill out those endless government forms?

I have no clue. We are up in Canada and it isnt required, but I have talked to a couple of people who have claimed to have gotten the extension.

Sorry I really cant help here.

MiniBrutes,

No problem. I made some calls to the EPA today to figure what's really going on here.
