My '92 Suzukui Carry arrived in Edmonton with an ignition key but no door key. I initially thought about trying to replace the cylinder with a new or salvaged part but then thought - what about power locks? Anyone tackle installing power locks on an import Carry yet?

All the trucks I've gotten have used the same key for the ignition and door. There was one exception - I've got one that the key doesn't work for the door, so I just don't lock it. Probably won't be a big deal. As for the power locks I would think that a basic JC Whitney power door lock kit should work. Just a matter of finding the right power wires, etc. I've installed one of those in another pickup without much trouble.

Had the same problem with my carry. Just Took it to a local lock shop. They pulled the lock and cut a new key. Now I have a seperate door and ignition key. Guy spent about an hour on it. Charged me forty bucks. I Thought that was very reasonable.

Thanks for the info NorthTexas and Smooth. I've been leaving the mini unlocked since the ignition key doesn't work in the door lock but I figure it's only a matter of time if I don't do something about securing the cab. Prob. faster to check with a local locksmith about re-keying and leave the power locks for a winter garage project.

Gleach,
Try All Lock Rescue on 156th? half block south of 118 ave. They were able to cut keys from mine as the blanks are not common in Edmonton (wonder why?). They are very helpful, I use them alot for my Real Estate biz.

Get on Ebay, and get a power lock kit....less than $30, with 2 remotes. They're from China, but I've used 'em before with NO problems. Prob'ly a VERY easy install on a Carry!!
Go for it!!

I had my automatic door locks installed at futureshop, but it was part of my alarm kit through viper alarms. I was given a great deal with my stereo at the time.
