My name is Edward and I am based in Tokyo, Japan and in the business of exporting used commercial vehicles, kei trucks, and passenger cars overseas. I purchase vehicles direct from dealer auctions and wholesalers throughout Japan. If I can be of any assistance to anyone wanting to purchase direct from Japan, let me know. Regards, Edward

Could I get a road legal kei truck to Australia for $5000 or under?

Cheers, Sam

Hello Sam. Yes it would be possible but one thing you have to remember is that because of the laws in Australia, the truck would have to be 1988 or older as nobody has compliance plates on mini trucks at the moment. In saying that, even though the vehicle would be 20 years old, you can still get a nice example that has under 80,000 KMS and is in good working order from the auctions in Japan. You would be able to land one in Australia including shipping for under 5,000 but you will however need to pay the landing taxes and duties once it touches down. If you have any other questions or would like to see what vehicles are available at auction, let me know. Regards, Edward

Thats the best news ive herd in a while mate, thank you. Do you have a rough guestimate on how much landing taxes/duties will cost? and for 5000AUD to get a truck here, what sort of truck would i be looking at (If you have any other questions or would like to see what vehicles are available at auction. Yes please)

Thanks again Edward!

Sam

The following are the taxes you have to pay upon importing to Australia:
Import duty: 10% (of vehicle cost)
GST: 10% (of vehicle cost)
If you were to use a customs broker to take care of the import on your behalf, it would probably cost you an extra $300.00AUD. Please send me an email to ed@reddex.net and I will send you a few example pics of what you can expect to get for your budget and give you a link so you are able to browse the Japanese auto auctions yourself. Hello Edward,

Sounds good. I am still looking for a good price getting a running old car from japan to Germany (Netherlands or eventually UK would be fine too).

My project are not fixed up to now and will at least need 10 month or so before I can arrange a car order.

I have three questions:

1. Do the cars have to run or can they be non-runners ?

2. Would you ship to europe (Germany) ?

3. Would cars from Online Auctions (e.g. Yahoo-Auction) okay ?

Kind regards,

Daniel

Hello Daniel, I will answer your questions below:

1. Do the cars have to run or can they be non-runners ?
If the vehicle was in running order, it could be shipped roll on/roll off to the UK which would cost you about 350GBP. If the car was not running you would have to put it in a 20ft container which cost you about 3000USD (that price includes freight, vanning, loading, BAF) which would blow your landed cost way out of proportion, so my advice is running vehicles are the way to go.

2. Would you ship to europe (Germany) ?
I can ship to any port world wide but from what I understand, Germany has no roll on/roll off service which again brings you back to costly container shipping so you may have to bring it to the UK first and then do inland transport to Germany for the exercise to remain cost effective.

3. Would cars from Online Auctions (e.g. Yahoo-Auction) okay ?
I do sometimes purchase vehicles from Yahoo auction but from past experience I have gotten a couple that have not been described accurately and it has turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. I purchase most of my vehicles direct from Japanese dealer auctions where you have an accurate auction report and if there is some information that is incorrect you have an option to claim to the auction house whereas with Yahoo auction you are stuck.

If you send me an email to ed@reddex.net I will send you an link to our online auction site and you can view trucks that are coming up weekly.

I hope this information helps you out and if I can be of further assistance let me know.

Regards,

Edward

Hi Edward,

Thanks for the quick answer.

Okay, so I will focus on rolling cars.

2. Would you ship to europe (Germany) ?
I can ship to any port world wide but from what I understand, Germany has no roll on/roll off service which again brings you back to costly container shipping so you may have to bring it to the UK first and then do inland transport to Germany for the exercise to remain cost effective.

What about the Netherlands ? The have a huge port in Rotterdam and they are far easier to arrive, since they aren't an island like the UK.

Okay, I understand. What is your experience with quite old cars (aprox. end of 60s to end of 70s) ? I had the feeling was that they aren't sold via the dealer auctions.

If you send me an email to ed@reddex.net I will send you an link to our online auction site and you can view trucks that are coming up weekly.

I hope this information helps you out and if I can be of further assistance let me know.

I will email you in some minutes. Your infos helped already.

Daniel
