Has anyone heard of front end growling or a howling noise at low speeds in 2 or 4 not all the time but when it below zero it is more often and it can be very loud ??

OK this is just a guess but I had this happen on a car once. When it got quite cold, I would get a howling noise like you descibe. Turned out to be the speedometer cable. Frankly, it's been so long I can't remember if we replaced it or lubed it. But it went away.
