Had a couple of them through here monthgs ago. Everthing was the same as a Suzuki carry except the name lables.

And the chassis numbers are similar, they go by DK rather than DB or DD as with the Carrys.

I gotta say I prefer a German car over Japanese but they are a very close second.

A cavalier is one of GM's "cheap" cars. You cannot dispute that fact. It is American, no dispute there. And, in a much shorter time period they become junk. Hey, dont get me wrong, there is lots of "Junk" from the japanese as well, it just takes a lot longer to become junk.

Up here a 92 Cavalier with 200,000KM is worth about $800. A 92 Civic with 200,000KM is still worth $4K. Obviously those people buying $4000 Civics are real stupid, OR there is that much more life in the Civic


My old 98 Chev Astro AWD would get 14MPG.
My 91 Delica gets almost 30MPG and again sells for twice as much. I am obviously stupid too eh?

Isnt John Deere american? Dont they have a side-by-side? You can get a cab and heater right? What kind of shape will it be in when its 16 years old? What kind of resale value is it going to have and what kind of life will be left in it?

Haha. I kinda though it was funny, but you know, its true. My Porsche/Benz/BMW guy right now wont touch Japanese or domestic. He "dont like them". And you can even take an imported Honda to the honda dealership and they may even refuse to work on your car. It has happened here.

For the most part, I think its just the unfamiliar. Also what you were raised with. I was raised on import vehicles, primarily inexpensive to buy, expensive to own Italian cars. (Fix It Again Tony) But oddly enough, my own italian car stint was very short. (Its probably because the Italian cars I want are quite far out of my financial means and got tired quick of repairing them all the time. )
So, we go one step down: German. Some nice affordable cars in this group. But the ones I like best are out of the budget too. Do keep some german stuff around once in a while.
Now down to Japanese: Wide selection of amazingly fuel efficient sporty performers. Unique, fun, reliable and economical to run, repair and maintain. Good resale. Something for every budget.
Big 3 - Largest service and parts network in North America. A wide selection of vehicles you cant get from the above. They do have some appealing (to me) models both past and present. The Fiero - A mid engine 2 seat roadster. Pretty cool in its day. The Cobalt SS Supercharged, The SRT-4 and even the Magnum are pretty cool units. Ford's Hybrid escape is cool too. The Ford GT, Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, GMC Typhoon are vehicles of interest. But, as you can see, there is a trend here. Mypreference is for smaller lighter cars with great handling, great performance and good economy. (Ok, well Economy has nothing to do with the Italian or German Cars. Ha.)

Its just that there has always been a better selection of these types of cars from places other than North America. Of course any "displacement Junkie" is right at home with big-block Chevs and Fords. Of course their is no comparable thing from the Japanese market. ( I personally dislike the Corvette to a major degree, and really have no use for the classic muscle cars at all. )

Then British, Korean, Russian, Indian, and of course, Chinese. Hmmm I guess Canada SHOULD be in there somewhere. You know the Can-Am Spyder is pretty cool.

I dont meant to hit a sore spot, but there, I put my whole automobile hierarchy out for all to see.

My wife has a minty 92 Mustang 5.0 A msucle car right? 215ish HP stock. Only mod is equal length headers and suspension. I have a 92 Civic from Japan. Factory V-tec engine. Mods are muffler and suspension.

Mustang: 12 MPG on a good day. Heavy, rattly, but fairly quick.
Civic - 42MPG on a good day. Light, more quiet, and a rocket that beats the mustang in every comparison. (Regardless of drivers)

Those are some of my arguments. I own domestic junk, so I think I am allowed to call it as I see it.

And again, all just my opinion, to which of course, you are entitled.

I got dizzy reading through your long post and trying to follow you.
I don't know were to start my reply so ill start with the 92 mustang.
I will admit that from about 90's models american cars and pickups are junk.
The reason for that is with import export laws the way they are america is at a big disadvantage on the world market. In the 90's american auto companies were trying to compete with japanese automakers and failed miserably.
Then about 98-99 dodge chrysler decided the heck with the japs lets start building american cars again. They did and I think dodge builds the best cars in the world right now if you compare them in there price category.
You cant compare a ferrari to a dodge dart and say ferrari builds a better car and american cars are junk.
Gm and Ford several years after followed chryslers lead and are now also building some of the best cars in the world.
I will admit the japs automobiles are durable and dependable but honestly I don't really like ridding around in a shoebox with a overgrown lawnmower engine and gocart wheels.

BTW im not a displacement Junkie my 4x4 dodge dually I pull my horse trailer with is lowered 2 1/2 inches.

They only reason I am putting alot of modifications on my mini truck is because in all reality they are not an off road vehicle.

You purchase a John deere atv you can take it anywhere and beat the hell out of it and it will run forever and believe me we beat the hell out of them.

We have tried polaris - honda - kawasaki ect 4 wheelers and we destroy them in about 1 - 2 years.

These mini trucks if you took them out without modifications the first thing that would happen is you would run a sage brush branch right through the radiator.
The next thing that would happen is you would take out the engine or transmission on a big rock.
Thats if you could even get were you wanted to go with the chicken **** go cart wheels that come on these.
In reality I paid about 4800 for mine its in good condition low miles.
In parts and labor I am going to have to put another 3000 into it to make it a true off road vehicle. The more I work on it the more I see how cheaply built it is. I can't even find a good solid place to mount a front or rear bumper in case I get it stuck and have to jerk it out with a pickup. It looks like I will rip the frame in half if I pull on it to hard. Did you realize the frame is mad out of metal that is just slightly thinker than sheet metal. I have rebuilt about 1/4 of the suspension so far.
This is an experament for me I wanted to try one because they were cheap.
But with all the work I have to put into it to make it an off road vehicle which most people selling them are advertising them as. Its not turning out to be so cheap.
I will give it a chance though I might be really happy with it but I have my doubts now after seeing the fine japanese craftsmanship that goes into these things lol.
Let you know in about 6 months after I have beat it around awhile.

Something I just found out:

John Deer Tractors we built by a Japanese company up until a few years ago. Many people I have been chatting with feel the JD tractors have gone downhill since the change. Not necessarily junk, just not as good as they used to be. (They sure don't make em like they used to) Not sure about the Gator's, but if you think a JD tractor is a great unit, then you secretly like Japanese items on another level.
