I am replacing a faulty CV joint and need help removing the rear axil. How is the axil detached from the transmision. I presume that it has a keeper of some sort on the axil and a good pry is needed to get it to separate from the transmision. I have tried to do the with a large screw driver and it has not freed itself yet. Worried that I may have it wrong. Help....

Trying to remember the CV setup..this a rear engine/RWD setup right?
If so, some of the rears have a roll pin you have to remove to get the cv shaft out. Just worked on a Subaru WRX on which we had to use a long slim punch to drive it out.
Hope this helps.

Sounds about right. Most of the stuff Subaru built in the 80s had those roll pins running through the CVs in the front.
