I am planning a two week vacation and visiting the Iron Range OHV Park. A great event is planned.
You do not need any relationship with MS to attend. Just want some great off roading fun. Concern for others is a plus.
This will be my first time to attend. Sounds like a fantastic place--lots of video on utube.
I will have pictures of my Mini Truck on the trails to share after we return home.
Check out the link--if you would like to support MS victums by sponsoring us you can PM me. Thanks

From my research they do not specifically address "mini-trucks". I contacted the event coordinator and was told an off road permit is required and that will be taken care of on arrival.
I see you are in SD. My wife and I are planning to visit Mt Rushmore while up there somewhat close.

Just like most of have found out--seems each state has its complex statutes regarding vehicle registration. Also seems that answers to such questions is dependent upon interpretation by the clerk of which the question is posed. My truck is registered on road and all walks of vehicles are seen at Iron Range, so I think all is fine. Although, it would seem they would accept registration, be it on or off road, from another state. Not accepting it would be akin to not accepting your home states on road registration for on road operation in another state. Oh wait, I guess that happens too with mini trucks:confused:
Anyway, I told the event coordinator what I have and there were no issues brought up. It should be a cool 3 day event. Good fun and fund raiser for a good cause.
$ talks, so im guessing u wonat have a problem, since the more attendance, the more $ is generated. sounds like a great trip and a good cause. take pics! post a trip report.

You shouldn't have a problem driving your mini truck in MN as long as you keep it off Interstate highways, and I'm assuming you'd trailer it up there? I don't think anyone'd give you any trouble. There's quite a few of them registered in MN as UTV's and several more that are skating under the radar registered as on-road vehicles. If you have ATV tires/wheels on it nobody'll look twice if you were driving it on The Range.

Lol, shows how much he knows... they're legal in 5 MN counties on any non-interstate highway.

Making room at the campground, meeting new friends, and the wheeling begins. Awesome trails they are.

The name of this trail says it all.

Badass dude! Looks like a good time, perhaps I'll join you up there next year :)

Man that looks like fun! Nice pictures! I need to get off my butt and find something like this to give my time to!
What kind of tires are used for the offroading? I think I am going to find me second set of rims like you have. One for off road, and one for the street.

Tires for off road are Goodyear Rawhides MT/R, 26x11.00R14 on Proline 14x6 wheels from Pep Boys. The on road set up is Firestone Winterforce 185x70R14 on a second set of the same wheels.
Using low range, I found the gearing to be fine. We idled over many obstacles and on flat terrain started out in second gear most of the time. The tire size does eat up some horsepower and is noticed on the highway, but all was doable in the black hills considering speed limitations and adjusting as needed.
Another note--I have a 6 inch lift and have trimmed the front wheel wells.

Yeah, that lift is insane dude!

I love your front bumper by the way, where did you get it?
07-27-2010, 09:16 PM
Nice bumpers. Some modifications were needed to compensate for the lift. All in all I like the bumpers.
