If the timing belt went on my 1991 honda acty 660cc HA4, would i cause any damage? Is this motor considered to be an "interference" type or non-interference. Does it even have a timing belt, or is it a timing chain?
Thanks,

Look at the front of the engine. If there is a removable plastic cover immediately in front of the valve cover, and behind the accessory pullies, then you most likely have a timing belt. Chains are internally lubed, and are typically housed inside the block. You'll normally see a rounded bulge on the front area of the valve cover, to make room for the chain and cam sprocket, if it has a timing chain.

I recently broke timing belt on my 1990acty I took head off but nothing wrong. I was told that it is a interference engine, now I need upper head gasket set. since then a parts supplier in michigan told me that none of the 660's are interference. He also said belt should last to 70k km. Mine broke at 33.5k brian

So are these motors interference? Some on the forum say yes others say not!

Is it hard to change the belt? Can most mechanic shops do this? If only it were a timing chain!
Thanks!
