These things must get good mileage. In an attempt to unstick my choke (once warm, it floods and is hard to start) I did the sea foam thing. But the weather's so damn miserable, once it stalled I went inside and left it until morning.
So I fire it up to go to work.... whole block gets smoked out! Somewhat embarrassed I head to work trailing a huge plume of white smoke.... almost a mile until it stopped.
And the choke's still stuck.

I am new here. I am looking for help with trying to figure out several things about these mini trucks. First just to see if I am wasting my time and so I'm not wasting everyone else's time. Are these legal in the state of Missouri (anyone know)? I want to get one to drive on the road on a daily basis. And don't you have to have a title to do that? Seems most of them don't have or come with titles. Also, I have read several places that if it is 25 years or older that the current laws don't effect them directly. This true? Thanks in advance for any help everyone. Aj.

I've noticed that the engine in my 1990 wants to run on after I turn off the ignition. Never goes for more than 3 seconds and doesn't happen all the time, but I do notice it more when the engine has been running for 30 mins or more.

I'm considering a timing issue
idle issue
low octane in the gas (what octane are you guys running 87, 89, 91?)

I guess the simplest solution would be to try a higher octane and see if that fixes the issue.

what do you guys think?

Hi everyone, I am hoping someone may be able to offer some help on a carb issue I am having. I have a 1991 1.0ltr subaru sumo (uk model) EF10 2WD 5...

Hi everyone, I am hoping someone may be able to offer some help on a carb issue I am having. I have a 1991 1.0ltr subaru sumo (uk model) EF10 2WD 5 speed, manual choke, which developed (im guessing) a gearbox issue. I had the van loaded (moving house) on the motorway when it started to vibrate quite dramatically (particularly the gear lever. When I dipped the clutch it would settle down, but as soon as I engaged the gears it would vibrate. At slow speed it was ok, but after 25-30mph it would start to vibrate again (so I guessed clutch or gearbox). When I took the gearbox off I couldn’t see anything really wrong with it (I didn’t open it up, but there was no play with the gearbox, clutch seemed fine and the flywheel didn’t show any signs of wear / warping). I had a spare engine I bought off ebay (the guy said it was rebuilt a couple of thousand miles ago and then sat for 1-2 years). The oil looked good and the crank moved freely and it looked like a very clean engine. So I swapped the engines over, fired it up and it idled and revved fine. I timed it up and it was running fine, responsive and sounded great.

I thought it would be a good idear to flush the water through the engine as it had been sat without any water running through it for at least 2 years. Unfortunately I snapped the bolt in the inlet manifold for the thermostat housing. As I had a spare manifold from the engine I just removed I swapped them over (to save drilling out the snapped stud). Fired the engine up and 100metres down the road the carb started playing up. Now it will not idle without the choke pulled halfway out and half throttle. If I go full throttle it cuts out (too rich I think). I cleaned the carb out .. still the same. I swapped the carb for the one off the other engine… still the same. I thought maybe the inlet manifold was leaking air, so I took it off and re attached with fresh gaskets and paste,.. still the same. I have played with the mixture / idle / tried without the airfilter attached and it still will not idle without choke and throttle and cuts out whenever you try to rev it up.

I thought maybe the solenoid was causing an issue. So I removed the solenoid valve and covered the hole. Now it would start and idle without the choke, but touch the throttle and it will cut out. As it was idling I tried spraying a mist of wd40 around the carb / manifold to see if it was sucking in air anywhere, but nothing… I don’t know what to try next! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Paul

I have quite a bit of mechanical experience so what you tell me wont be jibberish , truck has 38,000km on it and from what I have found searching people recomend you tune it up and do the waterpump and timing belt and fluids ..

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to add something and look forward to getting my hands on this thing

I fianlly got around to installing the power windows and locks. I bought it all at A1electric. Power windows were
tough to install, but overall it went well. I did the drivers side first, passenger side was a little easier. I had to
cut some of the metal form the door for it to fit flush to allow door panel to snap back on. After strugling with how to wire it up,
I ended up buying 2 fuse blocks from O'Rielys and installing them in the glove box. This made it much easier. The one on left
is connected to battery and includes a ground. The one on right is ignition 12 volt acc. Doing this made wiring much easier and
allowed me to have all my fuses in one location. I plan to make a cover that fits over fuse blocks so I can still use the glove box for other stuff.
I also purchased A1electric's MES door actuator with keyless entry. The kit is pretty straight foward and not difficult,
just takes some time to install. After install I did have to go back an adjust the postion of the actuator.

Lastly I had ordered a rearview mirror with compass and temp from ebay. It was easy,
just a 12v acc wire, a ground, and 2 wires that run temp sensor. Hardest part was fishing wire through A arm.
I installed sensor under front bumper so it could get some air and stay away from engine heat (hopefully) so far so good.

Heres some pics!

I was doing some tinkering on my sick 1997 Mitsubishi mini cab. I'm pretty sure it needs rings because it smokes bad. Head gasket is likely blown because there is oil in the coolant and the coolant smells like exhaust. Anyway, I need to remove the engine for inspection and rebuilding.

Best I can tell, the engine should be removed from the bottom. Is this correct? Also, Is the 3G83 engine a very complex engines (as far as rebuilding is concerned)? The rebuild kits are between $700-800 dollars, and I've been quoted $800 on a good used engine.

Once I get the motor out, are there certain "problem areas" that I should be aware of on these engines? Mine is a SOHC 2-valve engine carbureted.

Basically, any advice you can offer on any of the above procedures is greatly appreciated. I don't mind spending the money, but I definitely wanna get it right.

Hello everyone. I'm sure glad I found all of you guys on here.
I just acquired a 1995 ? suzuki. I was told to look at the seat belt tag for the year & thats what I found.
The thing does not have any Suzuki emblims on it & the center of the steering wheel says autozam.
I found a tag on the drivers right: inside by the back of the seat & it says Suzuki motor corp.
chassis;; v-dk51t
eng. F6A 657 cc

the thing has axel lock, dump box, black line plow on the front, rear blade & a salt spreader.
it's a little rough but seems to run pretty good althoe kind of sloppy suspension & steering.

Any body able to tell me what it is? also it's cameo so may be covering up some things

I have been having problems with the diff lock on the Carry. It seems to want to just switch on (diff lock light comes on and will not switch off) when driving and makes a hell of a bang if this happens at speed. I found the controller (part #38885-85021) and removed it (for anyone that wants to know it is under the dash right behind the glove box).
What I want to know is can I safely run the truck with this controller removed? At least until I can find a replacement. It was scarey running the truck when this diff lock just engaged on its own, sounded really bad and like something was going to blow up. I'm thinking I can safely run in 2WD and probably even 4WD just won't have a diff lock? Is this a correct assumption? And finally does anyone know where I can get a replacement controller? I have heard they can be very expensive?
Thanks, Phil

Hello all.

I have a 1997 white truck by CMC. The rims on these trucks are 13 inch. I tried to put a polaris ranger 12 inch rim on but the rim would not clear the front brake caliper. So because of this I bought 14 inch ATP rims with tires used. The tires are 26 inch. With all this means I need a big lift in order to clear the front wheel well.

I made 4 inch spacers to fit on top of the strut. I also made 3 inch spacers for the underside of the suspension in areas like the cross member, tie rod, and strut rod. I only made 3 inch because I had 2x3 metal lying around. I didnt think an inch would make a difference.

After putting all this on and lowering it to the ground it had bad camber (tires on ground sitting in and out on top, not sure if thats neg or pos) and the wheels toed in. Even with this lift the tires hit the front of the fender.

In order to correct the camber I am thinking of cutting the control arm and making it longer. Also to correct the toe-ing in of the wheels I am thinking of cutting the tie rods and making them longer.

What do you think? Am I just making this more complictated? Can I change out the front brake caliper to a smaller one and fit a 12" rim on it?

Thanks for your help

Eric

I found that when idling, the truck sounded fine, but when I would press the accelerator, engine rpms would slow and almost stall the engine, before increasing rpms and sounding almost normal. However, I found that when I turned the headlights off, this behavior went away. I know that the battery cables look pretty frayed and appear to have been repaired a few times so I plan to replace them, but I'm not confident that new cables will solve the issue.

Hi guys, probably a bit cheeky but i have both drop sides and a tailgate for a c reg Honda Acty.
These came with a romahome i bought, the sides have never been used, they even have the paper protectors on the catch hooks.
There is no rust at all on them, they are in white(not sure of the code)with the origional honda sticker still in place.
I am about to put them on E-bay but thought it a good idea to post here,i can imagine these are either expensive or hard to replace..
They have been dry stored inside the camper until i bought it,then stored at my work, this brings me to the bad points..
There is one small dent about as big as my finger end,and a few spots of overspray where some clown didn't cover them up(i'm sure this will polish off,but there are a few chips in the paint from when they were stacked in the camper..
If anyone is interested in making me an offer just e-mail me...If you would like them painting to match your pickup this can also be arrange be arranged.. Thanks for taking the time to read this....cheers Daz.

After searching out my options, I found one very nice bumper that was way out of my price range, and a couple cheap ugly looking brush guards and front receiver hitch mounts. My main reasons for wanting a front bumper are to protect the radiator when dropping the front wheels in ditches, and to have a good solid place to mount a winch later if I decide I need one. Not liking the options I had, I went the other way and made my own. ;) My dad and I attacked it this weekend and got it done in two days. I wanted it up high enough so that it didn't hand down and take away clearance, and won't get caught up when crossing ditches/ruts. This is where it's at now, the only thing left is a skid plate to protect the bottom of the radiator and give it something smooth to slide on should it drag, and not get caught up like it did on the last outing. I almost pulled the plastic off when backing out of a ditch after it nosed into the other side!

Hi all,

Hope someone can help. We have a little Carry 660 4wd with a tipper, we put a lift kit and some nobbly tire on, she goes anywhere! we love her!

I have been trying to remove the LH cv - the joint is gone and needs replacing. I have removed the tie rod hub side, the lower stabilzer bar at chassis end. What is the best course of action to remove the axle from the hub end? There are 4 small screws in the hub that look like they need to come out but I cannot shift them, extremely tight and I am worried about rounding them out.

Will I need a spring compression tool to remove the hub assembly from the strut?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok guys. Trying to solve a weird mystery.

I had the carb rebuilt for my Daihatsu Midget what has the same motor as the Hijet.

I put it all back together the same way it came apart. I took good photos before so I could make sure all the lines went where they were supposed to.

Because the truck was sitting so long, I wanted to prime the fuel pump and make sure the fuel was getting to the carb, so I pulled the fuel line that went from the fuel pump to the carb. The other 2 fuel lines (fuel tank intake and return line) I left hooked up.

I put the carb fuel line into a bottle so when the fuel made it that far, it would go in the bottle instead of making a mess.

That's when things started getting weird.

Fuel started coming into the bottle (the line that feeds the carb) as it was supposed to, so I was going to quit cranking the starter....but then all of a sudden it started sputtering and begins to idle!!!!

It ran for about 5 seconds, and then died.

I hooked the fuel line back to the carb and expected it to start running, but it would start anymore. Not even sputter.

What the heck is going on. How is the truck running when the fuel line to the carb is disconnected?!?!?:frustration: and why won't it run now?

Keep in mind this was a FRESH rebuilt carb with NO fuel in it.

Am I missing something? Is there another line that goes into the carb that delivers fuel that I don't know about?

HELP!!!

Here's a quick guide I wrote up on how to replace the headlights on a '90-ish Sambar (Round Sealed Beam bulbs).

I used the Sylvania H6024XV bulbs. The XV means that instead of a 320 hour life you get an 850 hour life and 15% brighter (which still isn't all that bright). I found them at Canadian Tire for ~$18 each.

I was looking into HID projector H6024 bulbs but it was getting to be a bit of a pain to get exactly what I wanted. I might still go that way, but in the mean time I needed a new bulb...

We had a truck come in the shop that had a knock knock knock sound coming from front end. Driving the truck and looking down through the passenger seat you could see the drivers side front axle skipping rotation. Further inspection showed the bearings completely gone on the outside cv joint next to wheel.
Unfortunately my local guys stopped rebuilding them so I called FG Procurement and had one in two days. 85.00 + 16.00 shipping. Kit comes with boot, outer cv joint, boot clamps, keeper ring, tube of grease and bearings already installed. Pulling the axle was straight forward. Remove everything behind the tire and the axle will be looking right at you. You will need a big impact to remove axle nut(22mm?). No need to remove strut. Work around it. Grab the axle and make a sharp pull towards you and it will snap out of front pumpkin. The biggest problem was getting that little gear off the end of the axle. After trying to beat it off(it has a keeper ring inside it) I got a 2" cut off wheel and made two cuts one on each side of the gear and tapped on it till it fell apart. Installing new outer cv joint onto axle was fairly easy and helped a lot having two people. You have to work that little keeper ring into place with a little flat blade screw driver while someone taps on end of axle to get it to slide down into place. Installing the axle back into pumpkin be careful not to hit seal. Most of the time it will be ok and continue to seal if you dont hit it.
Its pretty easy. This truck was a daihatsu s110p and the cv joint will have 71LAC on the bigger end of the cv joint itself. Some other s110p's will take the 75LAC. For what ever reason daihatsu used two different ones. So look for the numbers before you order one.

I have a 1993 Hijet pickup with 4WD. I bought it Gov. surplus and have just started to work on it. It seems to run fine but it's slow withpout the high range working. I did a search and read the posts about removing the c clip to allow the trans to go into high range. I have 2 questions; I removed the cover on the trans but can't seem to see the clip to be removed. Also there is a gear, w/shifting fork, "in the way" and I'm not sure what it does. It's vacuum operated with a unit on the back of the transfer case. It doesn't look like it has worked for a long time. The truck came from St Louis and it's pretty rusty. I have a repair manual but it doesn't cover the transmission.

Also, I noticed in one of the posts that they removed the back of the transfer case to remove the clip. I could do that but wanted to be sure nothing would fall out that I couldn't get back together without pulling the trans. Aqnd of course I don't have a new gasket.

Thanks for any help you could offer

1995 HiJet 2wd. Brake booster doesn't seem to function properly. I have to press hard to get it to stop. It will sling you into the windshield but you have to really stand on the brakes. Sometimes when braking lightly it feels like the booster is starting to work, the pedal drops with less effort and it stops harder. This happens intermittently. I have properly bled the brakes starting at passenger rear then pass front(No bleeder on the drivers rear it has line to pass rear where bleeder should be) then the drivers front. The pads are good and it has firm pedal feel. I removed the vacuum line and it sucks well all the way to the booster.

Are there any adjustments that can be made? Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone,

I researched and browsed this site before buying my mini truck. Well I found one on Craiglists, took it for a test drive, and loved it. It is a 1996 Daihatsu Hijet. It runs great, it didnt get the 40-50 mpg that is stated on many sites though. I did more research on this site and found that some of the mpg claims are false. I get 34.5 mpg at 45 mph, 32.5 at 55 mph, and 29.5 at 65 mph. Since I live in Mississippi, there are no limitations on these trucks here. I drive mine on the interstate going back and forth from work. I have a license plate, inspection sticker, and insurance on it like any other car. I love the looks I get when I drive my truck, I like being unique and different, plus SAVE on gas! Im thinking about a paint job, what do you all think?

Hello everyone. I have posted a couple of these pictures on here a few months ago but didnt seem to get much of a response so I thought i would try again and see if someone can help me out. I'm having trouble with my 95 mits starting when warm. Starts fine cold. I am hoping it has something to do with this carb. After buying the service manual and trying to adjust the carb I am wondering if someone can tell me just what the gold colored screw is in the middle of the picture and on top of the carb? I am assuming is has to do with the amount of fuel or air being let in as the further I screw it in the less rpm's get. However in the manual and in searching the many carb threads I can't seem to find any info as to where it should be set, etc. The only info I find has to do with adjusting the two screws in the other picture. Them being the chocke adjustment and fast idle. Of which I have the fast idle screwed all the way in and it barely adjusts the idle so not sure if i have other issues with that too or not? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I wanted to lineX my truck bed, but after finding out what it cost, I decided to give dupli-color
rattle can a go. It was on sale for 7 bucks a can at PepBoys, plus another 10% for military discount.
Overall it turned out great, as with any paint job, its all about prep work. I used the 80 grit
harbour frieght sanding blocks. I used thease all the time, there cheap and do the job well.
Next I wiped everything down with denatured alcohol. Then masked everything off.
I did the interior as well. I have a few spots that wrinkled. After a few days I'll
see what they look like, then hit them with some sandpaper and reshoot. Also on the bed
there is some powder type overspray that makes it look darker than other areas, I'll give a
few days then hit that with either the water hose or some light sanding.
All together I used 11 cans.
heres some pics...

At the time the pics were taking, It was still wet. I'll take some more today with bed rails up and
toolbox installed.
