I haven't been around much since I got my truck running good last year. I finally got a new set of tires on it, and wanted to post some pictures. ;) They're 25x8R12 Sedona Buzz Saw radials. They work pretty good on here! They're on the stock wheels obviously, with a 3" lift. Before this it had some worn out Swamp Witch mud tires the same size that came on it. It drives SO much better with these new tires, looks better too. :)

I just bought a nice little motorhome to take me down to Baja, Mexico. I don't want to trailer my Subaru Diaz van down behind me, although since it has AWD and 13" M&S rated tires, it should do good in the sand down there. Instead of the van, I have been thinking about getting a Yamaha TW200 FAT tired dual sport motorcycle to stick on the back bumper of my motorhome.

My DIAZ / SAMBAR van is the deluxe version, with A/C, power windows, good stereo, etc.
It has 100 K kms on it, runs strong, nice and clean, everything works,
BUT,
it has the ECVT / Auto transmission,
and the trans is starting to slip going up hills.

If I keep the van I would probably do a STANDARD transmission transplant rather than replace the ECT trans, but either way I still do not want to trailer it down behind my motorhome.
AND,
I DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO LEAVE THE VAN HERE FOR THE SEVERAL MONTHS I AM PLANNING TO BE GONE.
So, what to do??

Does any one want to buy a neat little AWD van for cheap??
I can deliver on VANCOUVER ISLAND or the LOWER MAINLAND.

OR,
PERHAPS BEST OF ALL,
Does any one have a TW200 motorcycle they would like to trade?

thanks

Hello :)

Realise that i'm quite a few miles away, but the Sambar ( and lots of Jap import mini trucks ) arn't that common in the UK, so thought i'd sign up, say hi, and hopefully find lots of friendly people and useful info :)

My names Darren and we've recently got our 2nd Subaru Sambar. It's a standard 660cc auto with the VW kit :

rory1y.jpg

We first got in to these little trucks years ago when we bought a VW kitted Sambar for our small childrens toy business. It went everywhere and we had lots of fun in it, but a gearbox malfunction ( along with selling the business ) meant we sold it. We then kept with the Japanese theme, but went bigger, getting a Toyota Estima and then a Mazda Bongo.
The Bongo didn't get used as much as we hoped, so sold that, got a normal family car .... and the urge to get another little truck came back, which resulted in us buying our current Sambar.

The plan is to use for short drives around town, the occasional longer distance trip, and for the odd bit of overnight camping - paired up to a smallish awning / tent.

This seems like a very handy forum, so i'm sure i'll be checking back often, asking a few questions, and generally chatting :)

I have been considering a mini truck for a while. My husband is looking at a Gator. We are weighing the pros and cons at this point. We have a 12 acre property with a paved road from the public road to the house and down to our kennel. The rest of the property is trails that have wood chips down (we get a couple loads a month from local tree services).
I would like to use the mini truck to go from my house down to the kennel and back. Usually I am hauling anywhere from 3-6 dogs with me, German Shepherds. The paved road from the house to the kennel is pretty steep and my husband questions whether a mini truck can make it up and down with approximately 500lbs of people/dogs on board. He also wonders if the tires we see in most of the ads are suitable to drive around on the trails. We will also use it to move wood chips around back on the trails where it's kind of tight for the tractor.
Here is a truck I'm looking at, I like the high sides and the ability to let dogs jump in and not be able to see out as easily as the low sided mini trucks. It also looks like it may have a fabric cover to pull over the bed.
Also, is it feasible to pull a small trailer with a mini truck? I have a small 4x4 open trailer that I pull with my MINI Cooper and we also have a 4 hole dog trailer that we would like to pull around the property on occasion (it weighs about 500lbs empty).
Thanks for any input!

It would be nice if there was a section on this site where we could post things for sale like extra wheels or other parts. The classified section is limited to bronze members I think. Other forums offer sections where people can buy and sell to eachother. I was wondering if there is a reason this is limited here. I have a set of wheels and a set of tires I would like to sell and not sure how to get it done.

Hey guys,

Soon after I purchased my truck, I realized the stock tires weren’t cutting it out in the field. Kei trucks became “street legal” in Kentucky back in June 2011. I wanted the maximum performance off road but also wanted to keep it somewhat “streetable”, basically I was looking for the best of both worlds. I settled on importing a set of Yokohama Super Digger II in the stock size of 145/R12. Awesome little tire, 6 ply, appropriate load rating, excellent in the mud and drive perfectly on the road.

Well, after many insurance woes, I have decided not to register / insure my truck for street use and keep it on the farm. With that said, I’m going to change my strategy and run an ATV / UTV style tire. These UTV’s are getting larger and heavier every day and almost everyone now offers a 4 seater version of their particular model. Some even offer a decent payload in their little plastic beds. :D

I’ve been studying up on the Maxiss Big Horn 2.0 found here:

http://www.maxxistire.com/Motorcycle...-20-Front.aspx

I had this tire on a little Kawasaki Mule 610XC and loved it. Radial, 6 ply and plenty aggressive.

However, this tire caught my eye as well, the Maxiss Ceros:

http://www.maxxistire.com/Motorcycle...ros-Front.aspx

I’m not planning on a lift of any nature and want to stick with the popular size of 23x8x12. There is a noticeable difference in the load ratings between the two models in this particular size. After more research into some UTV’s, several are running the Big Horn 2.0, but in a taller tire which then offers a more adequate load rating.

Personal reviews, comments, suggestions please on these two tires.

In the mean time, I’m going to have to find something to do with these Diggers. I’ve put a whopping 72 km’s (or 45 miles) on them since I’ve had them. They still have the little rubber tits on them.

Thanks!

Hello from Newbie member Mark Simpson..
From the U.S. long ago but live here now for the last 10 years...
currently petrol is about $6.00usd a gallon here..one of the reasons I chose a Suzuki Van..

I have a 1994 red Carry Van, red and black interior.. which i've owned about 3 years now..
4X4, 2 inch lift kit, big mud tires, stock F6A 12 valve with a simple dual range 5 speed..
it averages about 42 to 45 miles to the gallon on the highway at I would guess averaging @ 50 miles an hour?.. not sure what the true speed it now because of the larger tires i'm sure the speedo is off by 12-14km an hour easily.. hauls 5 people in comfort but whats missing is a air vent for the front like in my old 47' Plymouth coupe, and air conditioning lol...

i'll post pics when I have time..

The other project is we have a Carry pick up, no box on the back yet.. it's going to be running a K6A turbo, LPG with an automatic transmission, and no computer box for the turbo when running LPG so its a simple setup.... should be interesting since the K6A engine in the arctic cat snow mobile came with 120hp stock..its quite the engine.. all alloy, twin cam, 5 bolt mains..120bhp from a 200 pound 42cu. inch engine is quite something..i'm sure running the automatic will give a few local cars here a run for their money lol.. if not get a few good laffs.. until the smoke pours off the tires ;) the engine is still in rebuild stage..

I'm glad somebody created this site because there's so much to learn about these Carry units...as there's not a whole lot of information out there about them..
the streets are full of them here..they are the mainstay of people movers other than the big diesel "jeepney" types..
when ya need a part.usually have to match it up,
as DD, DB etc... doesn't really mean anything here..as they are imported chopped down to the chassis, then re-welded from the ground up into various body types..so there's no standard..everything is used here..F5B on and on.. i read one day an advertisement for spark plugs for the 660cc suzuki engine.. there were atleast 20+ different configurations of the F5 and F6 engines manufactured,, twin cam, turbo, on and on... i never found the link again unfortunately..

eventually they'll be phased out and we'll get more and more K6A's imported..

I'll upload some pics when i get time..
thank you :)

I have had trouble with the truck running rich and bogging down for the last 2 weeks. I ran some seafoam through and sprayed some carb cleaner in the intake. I am sure that the choke is opening up all the way. I changed the plugs and cleaned the cap and rotor of some crud and it has improved but I still get that bogging if I accelerate too quickly. Tailpipe is a bit black and sooty. I know the mixture screw is under that plastic cap. Which way do I turn it to make it run leaner?

Hi Everyone,
I just got new wheels and tires put on my Sambar. I went with a 13" Ixion wheel (this choice was easy as it was the only 13" wheel the shop could order). I then matched it with a 155/80/R13 Toyo tire. Seems like that was the preferred size from posts on this forum to keep as much power as possible. So far its been running good. With the beefier front springs and these bigger wheels I think ive noticed a change for the better in ride quality. Here are some photos. As usual thanks for everyone for wheel and tire posts.

I moved this from the sticky to hopefully draw some helpful eyes. Here is the back-story.

Soo.... I left my headlights on, got a jump from a stranger, busted out my cables and was going to hook both vehicles up, started with his connections to the battery, he grabbed the other side, a couple of sparks flew and he said oops. I chuckled and figured no big deal... Well... then it wouldn't start... battery tested good, tightened all connections to the terminals... my dash lights and running lights come on, key in ignition goes ding ding ding, but no headlights, heater, a/c blower won't come on, nothing from the ignition. The starter doesn't crank... I checked for voltage at the starter/solenoid and its good there... from everything I've read I was pretty sure i blew the main fusible link... my problem is I've traced the wiring harness from the battery to the starter/solenoid, battery to alternator, battery to the ignition switch and I have came up with zilch. It sounds crazy to me that I do not have a main fuse but 14 hours of getting in awkward positions and crazy angles have confirmed it. Ive checked behind the fuse panel, under the driver and passenger seats.... i don't think its been bypassed, all of the wiring is in the factory conduit and nothing looks rigged... that being said, if there was no main fuse, and I haven't found any melted cables, where should I check now?

My wife thinks I bought a lemon.... I think that Murphy is a jerk and I hate his laws. Someone please offer up some ideas. I will gladly post pics of the wiring harness, multimeter readings while checking relays, or anything else that would assist in the resurrection of my minibeast
I got a little nervous once I got past the point of no return, but everything seemed to work out well. My only issue was installing the new springs. I ended up taking the struts and new springs to a shop to get them to install the springs because they needed to be cut to fit right and I didnt have the right tools for that job. The camber looks to be a tiny bit off now that the front end is raised an inch or so, but its not bad. I may take it to get the alignment checked. Best part now is to get rid of the stock 12" wheels and upgrade to some new rims. Thanks to everyone for all their posts regarding upgraded Sambar springs. There was a few different theories on this in the forums, but this one worked great for me. For all that care, the Eibach part number is 1000.300.250S.

I recently purchased a 98 midget so that I could use the engine to put into my other hijet. I was going to order a rebuilt engine but I found this midget locally and it was cheaper than getting one shipped in to town. I'm considering trying to sell the body/frame of the midget because its in good shape and someone could just drop an engine in. Any suggestions? Am I wasting my time trying to sell? If not, what should I try and sell the midget for?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

hi guys

I am hoping someone will be able to help with an ecvt problem. I have just bought a 1995 Subaru domingo (vw lookalike) 1.2 automatic (FA8) with a gear box problem. the guy I bought it from said that he went to drive it one day and it would not pull away. he took it to a mechanic and they told him it needs a new gearbox. the engine runs fine and the gear lever selects D, DS, R but there is no attempt to move. if I give it gas the clutch temp light goes on. I have looked through the forum and dustysjustys.com. I took the brushes out and they were dirty and slightly worn ( the tip of the brushes are not flat anymore). I took it to a local starter/alternator repairer and he didn't have any replacements that matched. in his opinion he thought they were fine. they were still quite long,. but without seeing new ones we don't know for sure. does anyone know how long they should be?

I cleaned them up and put them back, but it still will not engage gear. I have probed the wires and when running they both show as live, is this correct?

I checked the switch on the accelerator pedal and that seems to be working fine.
does anybody know where the 'CCU' and 'test mode connector ' are located in the van and how to conduct a 'd check' and 'read memory' (this is all mentioned in dustys ecvt manuals,. so I am not sure if this is for justys only?)

any other advice / things to check?
thanks
Paul

So, I bit the bullet and ordered a rebuilt carb for my 1994 HiJet from Don - at YokohamaMotors.net.

I emailed their info@ email address and got a reply that evening from Don.

After swapping my VIN and some preliminary questions, I was given a grand total including shipping.
I paid via PayPal and was sent a USPS tracking number the next afternoon.

I ordered the carb on Wednesday.
I got the trackin ifo Thursday and was VERY surprised when USPS dropped it off Saturday morning around 10am.

I'm approx 2 hours from Louisville and ~3 hours from Indianapolis.

The carb arrived nicely boxed and in a plastic bag.

The carb was around ¥27300 yen plus ¥4700 shipping.
The dollar to yen conversion was around $306 total for carb and shipping.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but I had a great experience with Yokohama motors.

Your mileage may vary.

I recent stopped by this 4x4/atv/utv/motorcycle park. Pretty cool with 240 miles of trails, RV parking, camping sites, and shooting range. I think total area is around 4000 acres. The park has been open for a couple of yrs. and I have driven by the entrance a number of times. The other day we were in no hurry so we pulled in and they lets us drive around a bit. Being about 40 miles from the house I will have to take a mini truck someday and check it out.
Location is on the north western edge of the Texas Hill Country, along the Highland Lakes. Lakes that are within 60 miles of the park include Buchanan Lake, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Marble Falls Lake, Lake Austin and Travis Lake.

If interested the web site is: hiddenfallsadventurepark.com

Ac works great but the pulley bearing is dry and making a lot of noise.
On the front of the compressor there is a allen screw that holds the clutch assy. on. Anybody have a ideal of getting the clutch off after removing the allen screw????????????????????????????????????
The pulley with the bad bearing should slide off after that.
Everything has a flat surface and you cant slip anything behind clutch to pry it off.
All the compressor needs is the pulley bearing replaced. I know my bearing guy will have or can get the right bearing, no doubt he pulls rabbits out of the hat on a daily bases.

"""On a second note"""
FYI for those that need a completely rebuild on the ac compressor I found a company in Calif. that will rebuild DD51T compressors. If your DD51t compressor with the # SS07LT5-95201-72BA1 on it they can rebuild it. This part # crosses over to there # 5412-43-40. 1 yr. warranty. $ 252.79 + shipping.
If your compressor looks like this one they can rebuild it.

In the last couple of months we have had two S110P's that when started up with a cold motor they had a rough idle and a little black smoke. On the first trk. I checked all the basic things first and nothing helped(good fuel, fuel filter, clean contacts inside dist. cap,sea foam, air filter, cleaned plugs, ect. Truck ran fine once it got over 1200rpm + -. but still had that little rough idle. This was about to drive me nuts after two days of jacking with it. Then finally I found the problem and it will be the next thing I check on the next one. In the picture you will see the two clean black vacuum lines that were replaced. The old ones had cracks in them creating a vacuum leak. WOW, what a simple fix. Then about two months later another s110p with the same idle thing and thats the first thing I checked. Sure enough the one with the green vacuum reducer( or what ever its called)
line was cracked creating a vacuum leak.
I wish I could get over for thinking the worst and think about the simple things first. In the long run I guess it builds character.

Hi everyone! New to the forum. I really get a kick out of the kei trucks. Here is one I spotted in Montauk, NY. Montauk is on the very east end of Long Island known for its great surfing and fishing. It's a Subaru Sambar. Somehow it was registered, inspected and had a normal license plate. I wish the owner was there as I would have loved to ask him how he pulled this off. I'll try to find him this summer!
Credit goes to monkeyfuels for the work @ the NAPA counter.
NAPA part # TS7266M
NAPA part # TS7912X

Two sets will make one front set, some grinding, total price $60 ish, but no shipping or delay.

Looked up some pics and pricing, the NAPA site is good too, but no pricing that I could activate.
Just a bump with new title and some pics so that you can compare before going over to the counter.
I have not tried this but the member says they work fine.
