Mysterious starter/alternator/battery problem
In the morning I went out to start my truck (1991 Mitsu 4 speed U42 4wd) and it felt like the battery...

Mysterious starter/alternator/battery problem
In the morning I went out to start my truck (1991 Mitsu 4 speed U42 4wd) and it felt like the battery was almost dead. You could hear the motor turn over maybe a quarter revolution and stop on the first 2 attempts. On the 3 attempt it started up just fine. Drove to work no problem, when I went to start it after work I had the same problem except this time no start. I put it in neutral, lift the driver’s seat and manually turned the engine crank over by hand to a top dead position, this sometimes makes it easier on a poor battery to start. Sure enough it gained enough rotational speed and started up. Drove it home fast just in case, turned it off once in my driveway and tried to re-start it. No Go, and this time turning the engine crank does nothing to help it. When you try to start it, the crank moves about 2 inches. If you manually move the crank to a easier position, the motor will rotate for almost a full revolution before seeming to run out of juice. Now here’s the thing, the battery is actually only about 2 months old. Tested it on a multi meter and it was reading 13.46 with truck off and no load. This is actually quite high; normally you get this rating when the motor is being charged from the alternator. Hooked up a trickle charger to it overnight and this morning still no go. Now for about a month the alternator belt has started to whine when it gets wet, thinking stretched belt. Checked the belt and it is quite loose, about 10mm more deflexion than the rating given in the Bravo manual. Even if the belt is loose or if it stretched because the alternator bearings have failed you would think it will still at least start with a strong battery, or am I confused on this? Any help would be great.
