What are the real numbers you guys are getting? Everyone claims to get 40 - 50 mpg ( which is 4.7 - 5.88 l/100 Km). Fuel numbers for highway maybe? My first look only gives me 30 mpg, which was a combo of city and hwy. My truck, Subaru Sambar has 50K on it, does she need a tune up? I know I am still learning the gearbox and feel of her but 30 is far less than 40/50! Thanks Ichabod
For what it's worth, my Sambar does 30-35 mpg normally. I live a few miles outside of town, so about half of my traveling is done at 60-70 mph with the engine screaming. I have no doubt a Sambar could pull 40+ tooling around town. Colin
i did a check on My Acty and it came to 42.5mpg (imp) around the city. this current tank isn't as good as there have been a number of very windy days that have really made it work.
haven't let it run down to empty other than when i first got it and it was right on "E" and put in about 33litres. Put in 20 litres at about 330km and was showing about halfway between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank at that point (i guess that would be about a 1/3 .
http://www.gassavers.org/garage/viewgaslog/666? My average mileage (combined city/highway) is 29.54 MPG.
wow, thats pretty good. I have not run thru a tank yet, but i dont think i'm getting that good. Is that mainly city driving? I will post when i run thru a tank. -mark
Well, i filled up this morning, i get approx 300km on a full tank (35L) whatever that translates into MPG. Not as good as i thought... -mark
geez- that doesn't sound so good. when i'm at 300km on a tank it show just a hair under half a tank! thats all city driving for me too.
You need to add to the decimal point on your fill. with a small tank, rounding to the nearest even number makes huge differences. My last tank came out to 32.7 mpg. This one is going to be alot worse, since it's the one where I pretty much dumped fuel into the engine, trying to limp home on a dead cylinder. D rock, these trucks are meant for city use. It's very conceivable that you'll get better mileage in the city, than on the highway. I'm in 5th gear typically by 35 mph. That's a long stretch to get to 55 mph.
when i did the numbers on my first tank (42.5 imp mpg) i made sure to calculate the numbers to the decimal point. your right, rounding things off does make for a different outcome when doing mileage calculations. i also agree that the city mileage should be as good or better than screaming down a highway with these little units. even my Diesel Toyota Hilux surf (4runner) gets nearly as good mileage in town as on the highway.
okay- the latest numbers are in: 36.8 IMP miles to the gallon (or 30.6mpg for all you Americans). its down from my last tank but like i said, i had a few days of crazy headwinds so i expected it to be down this tank. the ol Acty really doesn't like to have a stiff 70km headwind blowing at 'er.
Could anyone figure out what my gas mileage would translate to at 300km per 30L? I'm not so good with the math stuff! -mark
Your telling me! I wonder what you could do on a full tank? I wonder if i can lean it out, it must be running rich like an SOB. I haven't pulled the plugs yet, but i bet they are BLACK! I know i can smell what seems like a trace of unburnt fuel when i'm at idle. Any advice would be great! -mark
300km * .625 = 187.5 mi. 30L divided by 3.79 = 7.9 gallons Your numbers come to approximately 23.7mpg (US) I made a spreadsheet on my laptop that automatically converts from metric to US measurements, and then figures the fuel economy. If this is what you got out of your minitruck, then you need to find out what's up with the truck, or evaluate your driving habits. If nothing else, these should be staying easily north of 30 mpg.
I know this seems terrible! I was on the highway a few times this tank, with a nice head wind. Perhaps this is why my mileage was so bad. I usually don't floor it because it seems to make no real difference in performance, neither do i rev the heck out out of it, i like to keep my rpms low. I'm usually in 5th gear at 50km/h. I wish there was some way to lean the mixture, to me, i think it just running very rich. Perhaps the altitude difference between japan, and where i live. I live at approx 2195 ft above sea level. I know altitude can make a big difference in jetting. Can i adjust the jetting on these things? Any help would be greatly appreciated! -mark PS...its a 1991 honda acty.
air filter was replaced only a few weeks ago, its good. I am going to do the plugs here shortly. I'll keep you posted. -mark
Well, 30mpg is still better than 18mph you'd get with many SUV's... or 6mpg with a Hummer! How badly does a lift effect MPG?
I trailered my Dauhatsu behind my RV on a camping trip to southern Az. Used the lil truck for transportation around the sites, sightseeing, and from town to town. Acording to my odo on the speedo (km's) I was getting 39 mpg.. but I had my GPS on all the time, and... Acording to my GPS.. I got about 35 MPG using mostly highway driving, and crusing backroads. My speedometer is off acording the GPS.. So I belive the GPS. That was with stock tires.. since then I installed 23" tires.. and the Speedo is closer to being right. Chris..
I get between 30-35mpg. Since Mitsubishi claims 50mpg, I am just a bit let down. Usually I can get better mileage than the manufacturer range. Honestly, though, I'd drive the thing if it got 5 mpg. -Andy
Of course, there are other factors here no one has mentioned. 1 - If you Americans actually run limited to 25MPH, you arent going to get the fuel economy running around in 1st gear. 2 - lift kits - they DO put more parasitic drag on the driveline. 3 - Tires - Bigger tires = more distance travelled per RPM, so you may have traveled farther than the ODO shows, but on the flip side, they can rob power. 4 - Driving habits make all the difference in the world. I find that 5th at 35 mph works the engine too hard. These engines are designed to rev. Try running in 4th instead at that speed. You may be pleasantly suprised. But yes, I dont know of anyone "actually" getting 50mpg. We get 38-40 quite consistantly (When driving appropriately) and a high was about 43.....
I think the reving may be what hurts my Minicab. I have a 3 speed automatic(for the wife!), and it shifts into 3rd around 20mph and carries that to 70. I usually travel about 40 - 45 mph, and a fourth gear would be nice. BTW, everything on mine is stock(wheels, etc.). Mods to that stuff would really make a difference in my opinion. -Andy
