Supercharged Sambar with Transmission Issue?

    Hello all!

I recently purchased a 1992 S/C Sambar (CVT trans), with around 30k kilometers on it. The other day I was driving it at about 45mph when the engine started to rev higher, without sending more power to the wheels. Pulled up to a stoplight, and it decided to die.

I rolled the truck out of traffic, and heard the CVT spin up in neutral. Additionally, when I try to start it, the truck cranks just fine, but then tries to move in park, like starting a manual in gear.

I've searched the forum, but I couldn't find an issue that was quite the same as mine! :)
Do you guys think it's the powder clutch, the transmission brush, or something else?

    Thanks All!

Sounds like the powder clutch is failed.. engaged? Perhaps the powder it clumped up inside and it is "permanently connected" to the transmission input shaft.

I'll check it out, thank you.

  4. We are having the exact same issue with our AWD 1995 supercharged automatic Sambar. was hoping it was fuel filter or fuel pump issue. But your @kalabri_desert description sounds exactly like our issue. Have you come up with any solutions or diagnosis???

The powder clutch and brushes both need to be replaced, that being said, I can't find the correct powder clutch anywhere :/

Unfortunately the 1990-1995 Supercharged Powder Clutch is discontinued.. unless you can find someone who is hoarding some NOS parts, you are going to be SOL.

You did? Are you certain that it is the correct version? There are 6 different powder clutches that are not cross compatible with each other.
