First time poster so lets go. I've recently acquired a 1993 carry. I swapped the motor due to a rod knock and I figured since the old carb was seized up i would replace it for something less problematic (i think i should've bought a factory carb at this point) but i followed the thread where someone swapped an elcheapo amazon 660 rhino carb (didn't work for me). Figured I would go ahead and scrap it and go with something more reliable and known like the mikuni 33mm pumper. It's running so rich that its fouling the plugs in a matter of 30 minutes. I understand that I will have to change the main jet out for a smaller one. It's set at a 127.5 from the factory. Pilot is a 37.5. Also added a fpr regulator and it's set at 2psi. I did read up on the guy that swapped a tm32 in his carry but mine is a little bigger and that it's a pumper. Any help with the needle settings and needle float size will help as well. I have never dove this far into a carb so any help will be greatly appreciated. I would really like to keep this carb and make it work if at all possible.

Does that Mikuni have a choke plate or is the choke an enrichener? Maybe something not correct there. I can’t see those jets making it run that rich but I could be wrong. I’m running a 40mm on my 660cc Minicab with 45 pilot/145 main, although I could go down to maybe a 142 according to my wideband readings at wide open throttle.

I believe it's just the enricher. And I don't know why it would be either. It is a genuine mikuni.

    Is it a bsr33?

    It's a tm33 pumper.

Maybe the enrichment plunger is somehow wonky. I wonder if that carb has a needle jet holder like my cv40, they can be installed backwards and cause issues.

It very well could be but if it was it was installed from the factory that way because i havent touched it. I am wondering if my jet valve is to large and wondering if it couldn't be flooding it that way. I did read where someone said they came with 2.5-3 needles that were made for gravity fed not for fuel injection (even though it's not really fuel injection cause it's just a fuel pump). I did order a 1.5 jet for it to see if that would help.

Curious what the issue was you had with the el cheapo rhino carb?

Wouldn't idle correctly smoked like hell. Died when you hit the throttle. I gave up on it. I rejetted it large to small nothing worked. I'm currently on my 4th carb swap experiment right now that seems to be working properly (somewhat). I've never fooled with carbs much till this point so this is a learning process.

The carb I am currently using that is actually working is a Nibbi pe28 carb jetted at 130 and pilot at 45. Still chasing a weird hang up where it does a high idle when you blip the throttle and then you blip it once more and she revs to the moon. But no vacuum leaks that I can find. Probably throttle linkage hanging somewhere but it's progress.

The 33 is THE way to go!
Look up I post as the Enricher from Polaris is a different size!
Sounds to me that the choke is your problem!
    I even posted the jetting!
Only thing else I did was made a mount to hold the stock air filter to Motor!

Yea I looked at alot of your previous posts on other threads. That's where I got the rhino carb idea from. I just said screw the mikuni. I'm running a Nibbi pe28 carb right now that works great. Still needing alittle better tuning but other than that she's actually running and driving well.

Hello, hopefully somebody out there can help me with my carb issue. A friend put a new 60 dollar rhino carb into my Suzuki Carry, but it just bogged and didn't respond well to throttle. Now, I read on this blog the Mikuni is the way to go. Apparently the TM 32 flat with a different needle size. How do I get a hold of the part number of the needle that I have to replace with the standard one? I tried to contact Fortnine but they only go with part numbers. Anyone, please!

    No not a flat slide
I have a 33 mm Mikuni With the vac slide off of a Polaris 500 4 stroke!
The flat slide is off of a snowmobile

thanks KC, would you be able to give me the part number of that carb? Did you change any of the jets or needle sizes?

    No part number LOL
Polaris sportsman 500 and get the choke adapter too!
I will have to get you the jetting info
The big issue is the Mikuni HD pattern carb flange, if you can get that as well off the Polaris
Then it is just a pair of 2" pipe Fernco's!
But be sure to make an adapter to get the air filter attached to the motor mount
    NOT to the body!
Jetting is 147.5 main and a 25 Pilot
Check out the photo of my set up

      This is my set up
No need for the very first alum plate
That is there for a Porting job on intake!
But a Standard Mikuni flange 38 mm I believe
The Carb came off a 06 DR 650 from Ebay
I believe it is a 40mm CV Pumper
      Throttle cable is OEM
The choke is a std snowmobile carb choke with the flip lever
Jetting is real rich at 147.5 main
      And 50 Piolt.
THE one thing I found is the air filter (stock) needs to be mounted with the motor
      Not the body!
There is a piece of angle iron ( bed frame) and a piece of flat down to motor mount
And YES that is a 2" copper to PVC plumbing fitting ( I am a Plumber)
And Yes that alt came off a Datsun, just removed the fan blade, it's like 60 amp
