I have visited many auto mechanic shops to fix the hard start of my 1998 Daihatsu hijet mini truck. They've all tried the same interventions like changing the spark plugs, battery, servicing the carburetor as well as the distributor, but non worked. The fuel pump is working just fine.
With this problem, the only way to start the engine especially in the morning, is to push start and continue pressing the gas paddle until the engine is hot else the power cut and engine stops. But after the engine is hot, it can be ignited normally by turning the key.
Please, help me sovle this problem.
    Many thanks from Ghana.

Had an issue with my 1996 Daihatsu Hijet S110P where the fuel cutoff solenoid was broken preventing it to start easily when cold. Had the exact same issues as you before, everything worked fine after the engine was warm, but was near impossible to start when really cold.

The fuel cut off solenoid is the green wire plug connector that leads directly to the carburetor. This can be removed using a 17mm? 19mm? can't remember, wrench.

I would suggest remove the solenoid and test if it works, and if it does not work to find a bolt the right size to try and plug up the hole and try starting up the engine again when cold.
