Hi all Our lovely Sambar was say outside in a private car park with one other car (friend's) and we heard a bang so looked outside and our whole moon roof has shattered into millions of bits I looked for anything obvious that someone might have thrown at it etc etc but there was nothing. Thankful we weren't all in it (2 adults, 2 kids) With the moon roof now swept into a small bucket but now need to either source a new (2nd hand) roof or see if my insurance company are interested in replacing it but I suspect they will write it off as I seem to remember these roofs being £800+ plus the fitting etc. Anyone else ever had this happen to them?
i have had a dodge caravan rear window explode (not implode) on me. Was a really hot day then high winds came up and cooled it off really quick and my van and my mothers van both exploded the rear window out at the same time.
I have never heard of it happening before. Today was / is just a normal 8c day here in UK so very very strange. Am awaiting some quotes for the replacement
Just an update. Our insurers have offered us a cash settlement (abut 1/3 less than I paid) and we get to keep the sambar with it not being classed as Beyond Economical Repair. This sound like a good deal? Cheapest roof so far I have found is £1400
I wonder if you could have someone make the glass sections from plexiglass/perspex...even fibreglass although not transparent is better than a hole in the roof....someone should be able to do it custom for you for much less than the 1400 for the glass roof...as long as you kept all the hardware
I'm with fupa on this one... I would make (or have made) a new set of roofs with plexiglass. It won't be as scratch resistant but it should last the life of the vehicle if the right stuff is selected (make sure you ask for UV resistant plexi ). z
