I've had decent luck with cross referencing a similar year Corolla or other very common Toyota of that vintage. For instance, that's how I got a replacement gas cap. And don't forget that Daihatsu are not completely unknown in the US...I don't recall the years but there were some cars imported a ways back.
Might look at Ebay under "Daihatsu mini truck". King Cobra Mini Trk. Parts/Chad Hite. Chad has them listed most of the time. 70 - 80 bucks sounds right I think.
