    Default How to mount reflectors?

I'm thinking I'll have to add side reflectors to my truck when it arrives.

What's the best way to mount reflectors on the fold-down sides and lower part of the doors? Do adhesive reflectors work? Do they promote rust? What about pop rivets? Is any kind of backing e.g. rubber sheet required?

What's worked for you? Any ideas appreciated!

for my dad's sambar there is yellow circle reflectors attached to the lower part of the front door with double sided foam tape. on the rear, there is a red light/reflector mounted on the back side of the fenders like on the slope of the wheel fender.

So did I in Prince George. I don't think they have different rules for different parts of BC.
I think they bloody privatized again an we have Inspectors that don't know the effing rules.
Either your guy or my guy is wrong. You should check with another in case you get a surprise from the RCMP one day.

    Thanks for the info gentlemen.

    Side lights? Groan.

For my fellow BC'ers you can apparently get access to the Vehicle Safety and Inspection Standards (VSIS) online for $25 at the Queens Printer or for free at your local library. (Personally I think it's asinine to expect us to pay for the details of the laws we're supposed to obey, but that's another rant.)

Anyway, I'm going this weekend to my local library and try to confirm what is and isn't required. I want to be able to quote chapter and verse if need be .

Side marker lights both front and rear are required along with reflex reflectors. The front corner lights are signal lights and do not qualify as markers (on most trucks).

Stick on amber reflectors on the doors, stick on red reflectors in the rear. Red side markers mounted to the lower side, wired to the tails, rewire front corner lights to come on as park lights instead of signals.

DOT compliant headlamps and tires are also required.

But yes, there are many inspection stations who dont actually read the book. Getting passed by a station that lets this stuff 'slide' is not a good idea as it can mean being yanked off the road at a random inspection.

The compliance bits are easy and inexpensive. Do it right. Do it once. Easy as pie.

Now they told me I need to put DRL (daytime running lights) on my truck. Did they try the same thing to you? Also there is no d.o.t on the seatbelts they tried to make me change them.

Also they told me I need to change out the reverse light. (No d.o.t)

I put new tires and new headlights on the truck.

Everything 1989 and newer needs the daytime lights in Canada.
Bloody good idea on these little death traps, you want people to notice you.
Drive Hwy16 sometime, you'd be pissed at the number of people who materialize out of the blowing snow, driving rain or setting sun and are too dumb to turn their lights on.

ya i dont know how my liteace got around the DRL. the front white lights are wired up that way. not the actual headlights. you can see it in the pictures of my truck when i first got it.

since my front corners are relective (cause they actually bulge out and are reflective, i didnt need reflectors on the front)

I'm in Alberta one guy in Edmonton they wanted him to install a netural saftey switch. It seems that it depends on where you get your inspection.Mine and all others I've seen have the Japanese tires mine has park lights wired for daytime running.Stick on red reflectors on rear but lights do the bulge thing on front. I did replace the tires to DOT 12"s but have since moved up to 13's.Never heard of the seat belt or back up light issue before. If they are run anything like the old Vancouver saftey inspections (what a joke) run it in just before quiting time and anything will pass. I ran a 66 falcon thru because i got a ticket only 3 of 6 treads on drivers front wheel acctually contacted the road because upper control arm was bent it PASSED lol. On the other hand if you wanted a good cheap mechanical inspection mouth off the first guy who looked at your car and it was guaranteed to fail but at least you knew all the problems.
