Hi Guys & Gals, Once a year our town has a big Show n Shine that precedes the Drag Races put on at the Local Airport - needless to say both are big, well supported events. As I know most of the gear heads pretty well I asked if I could put the "Sambar" on the portable dyno they bring in to the Show n Shine. It just barely made it up the ramps - almost to wide for Kei trucks. The Dyno operator put it through it's paces for two runs. The first was in 5th gear which is overdrive and is why the results show up as 8000+ rpm. The second run is in 4th gear, which isn't 1:1 but is probably more accurate. Guess what? It turned in a respectable 69 Rear Wheel HP with 61.5 ft lbs of torque. I had filled up with 94 octane and put in some Octane booster that should have brought it up 5 Octane #'s to 99. Needless to say I'm pretty pleased with the results.
I think I'm more impressed by the 8,100 rpm!! I get scared when I go close to 6,000, I guess I am underestimating these engines.....
Thanks tripper, and too cool. I vote you for our next mod here, and a Canadian Supercharged ambassador Are ya sure you do not need a twin for your 69 rear HP Sambar
That's the overdrive spinning the dyno roller faster than 1:1. i.e. If engine was turning 6700rpm/ 5th gear is 0.810 = 8272 roller rpm I think if I understood the dyno operater right. As I understood it the dyno needs to see the roller rpm and your engine rpm synced 1:1 to get good reading. Alot of N/A cars have 1:1 in 4th or 5th gear.
H.P. per Litre Calc If I have done the math right the 69hp in 660cc works out to 104.55 per Litre. So this would be equal to 522.73hp in a 5.0 Litre engine or comparable to 210hp in a 2 Litre engine.
Whoa! That's a LOT of power for a little truck. I really need a supercharged model. That's it, I'm going to turbo mine.
my drag VW had a 2 litre engine and i spent cubic dollars to get to the 200hp mark without a turbo or nitrous or anything... that took a lot of work. that's a pretty impressive number in a comparison like that.
