First weekend of deer hunting rifle season Junction,Texas
Carole and I went took 3 trucks to Baures Farming Enterprise(London,Tx) just north of Junction,Texas this weekend for the opening of rifle deer season. B F E has a big (FREE)
Bar B Q feed for all the Guys and Gals that start coming in July and buying corn, black eye peas, and soy beans to fill their feeders and getting deer camps sat up. Not sure how many people showed up but it was a steady stream from 10 am to 3 pm. I sat there and saw him sell 800 bags of corn within that time frame not counting the peas and soy beans. Corn is like a candy to deer but peas and soy beans are are like grandma's apple pie to them. This is the heart of the Texas Hill Country Deer hunting area for those that dont know. From Blanco to San Saba to San Angelo to Uvalde to San Antonio is the deer capital of the world. We have some where around 1 deer for every 15 acres of dirt. Jucntion, Tx is for the most part laid back community all year long. Located on I 10 west of Kerrville,Tx. But opening deer season weekend you cant find a motel room within 100 miles. Resturants are all full. So many deer hunters it will blow your mind. All went well at the Bar B Q. Had several interested people look at the trucks. The down side, the deer weren't moving at all. We have so many acrons on the ground from the drought that the deer have plenty to eat and staying still. When there is a drought the oak trees think they have to make a lot of acrons to survive so this year we had a record drought and the oak trees made boo coo worth of acrons. Deer just sit in one spot and eat till their bellys get full and dont have to travel far.
At the Bar B Q people from OK, LA, Miiss, NM, CO, and certainly Tx were eating and enjoying the company of some of the finest people there are on the face of the planet. You would not think the economy was bad at all being here. All of these people work hard and play hard. I find it that most of them give a lot back in some way or another. It was truly refreashing to get out of Austin and enjoy this weekend in the Heart of Texas Hill Country.
If anybody gets a chance come visit. Plenty of spring fed rivers and camp grounds.
Happy Hunting,
Trax and Horns
